FCDO Travel Alert: Stay Safe in Turkey Amid Protests

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued a fresh travel warning for tourists heading to Turkey as well as for British nationals already on holiday there.

Tensions have escalated in the region due to events in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. This has led to large-scale protests outside diplomatic missions linked to the conflict. Some of these protests are expressing anger at governments and have turned violent.

Following an earlier warning on 24th March, the FCDO strongly urges all UK tourists in Turkey to “avoid all demonstrations and leave the area if one develops. Local transport routes may be disrupted.”

If you’re on holiday, you should avoid crowds and demonstrations, monitor local media and plan ahead to avoid disruption. Additionally, the government body cautions: “FCDO advises against all travel within 10km of the Turkey-Syria border.” A reminder, your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against advice from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
