Sky Q experienced a significant outage on the evening of Thursday, 15 May 2025, affecting tens of thousands of customers across the UK, including Scotland.
The issue primarily involved Sky Q boxes unexpectedly entering standby mode, rendering users unable to watch live TV or access recordings. Some boxes froze with rotating blue light on the front of the box. At its peak, over 33,000 users reported problems, with some continuing to face issues into Friday morning.
Sky acknowledged the problem and advised affected customers to perform a power cycle:
- Switch off your Sky Q box at the mains.
- Wait for 30 seconds.
- Turn the box back on
This process has resolved the issue for many users. However, some customers reported that the fix didn’t work immediately, suggesting that Sky may have implemented additional backend solutions overnight
Current Status – As of now, Sky reports that the technical issue has been resolved, and services have been restored . If you’re still experiencing problems, it’s recommended to try the power cycle again.
