Livingstone Memorial Church Set to Close

A heartfelt update has been shared with members of Livingstone Memorial Church in Blantyre, confirming that the church is set to close under the Forth Valley & Clydesdale Presbytery’s Mission Plan.

Despite a formal appeal submitted in July 2024 by the Kirk Session to keep the church open, the Mission Plan Review Panel in Edinburgh has now rejected the request, upholding the decision to close. The outcome means Blantyre will move forward with just one single place of worship as part of the Presbytery’s wider restructuring plans.

The decision is final, with no right of appeal under current Church legislation.

Church leaders have expressed disappointment but assured members that they will continue to worship and operate as normal for now, with more details to follow in the coming weeks.

🙏 The congregation is being asked to remain strong and faithful as the community navigates this significant and emotional change.

Livingstone Memorial Church has its roots in Blantyre right back to the 1880’s and has been supported by countless groups and organisations, as well as generations of congregations throughout those decades.
