Police search for Hit n Run driver

Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly woman was injured by a vehicle in East Kilbride.

She was struck by a car on Heathery Knowe, at the junction of Strathcona and the road at the back of the Murray shops. The driver of the car did however stop, but allegedly only to move her to the side before driving off.

The woman’s daughter commented on social media, “Unfortunately the male driver doesn’t have much of a conscience as after sitting for a bit and realising my mum wasn’t moving, although he got out the car and asked if she could move, he then moved her before getting back in his car and driving off!

“Thankfully my mum has no internal injuries however at 81 years old she is in hospital with a broken thumb, broken ankle and knee which has resulted in her having a cast put on from her toes to her mid thigh leaving her immobile and in hospital for the foreseeable, due to living on her own she cannot get home.”

“We are thankful that given what’s happened that these are her only injuries however we would really like the person who hit her to get caught.”

She added: “The police are involved and still conducting enquiries but we are hoping can get more information with the power of Facebook.

“We know the driver is white male, mid 50’s to early 60’s and wears glasses. We also know he came down Heathery Knowe from Livingstone Drive, so if you have a ring doorbell please can you check for any dark coloured cars passing by that area around that time.

“Likewise if you were around that area at that time and seen anything please can you send any information, it may not seem important but may help us catch who done this.

“I don’t know what type of person leaves an old vulnerable, injured lady lying at the side of the road covered in blood even if he had stopped and helped fair enough accidents happen but it’s vile that he has left her there and deserves to be caught.”

Police enquiries are ongoing to trace the owner of the vehicle.
