Community Pride Shines in Blantyre Cleanup Initiative

Teams from Asda Blantyre and Hamilton recently teamed up with local volunteers in a South Lanarkshire clean‑up near David Livingstone’s birthplace. Together, they collected numerous bags of litter, enhancing local green spaces and shining a spotlight on civic pride and community stewardship.

The collaborative initiative has inspired conversations about future joint efforts, uniting corporate and community resources to protect and beautify shared environments.

Mary Sutherland, Community Champion, Asda Blantyre said: “Gillian, the Community Champion at Asda Hamilton, and I teamed up with the Hamilton and Blantyre Litter Pickers for a clean-up at the David Livingstone Birthplace Museum, just a few days ahead of the big Community Fun Day organised by the Police, Fire Service and the Museum team.”

“The museum grounds were really well maintained, so we focused on the surrounding areas. By working together, we knew we could make a bigger impact across such a large space, helping to make it safer and more enjoyable for everyone attending the event.”

Well done everybody. Which nearby areas do you think should be next for community clean‑up attention?

  1. I was down at Farm Road near the shop yesterday doing a litter pick (I am a member of Hamilton and Blantyre Litter Pickers) I noticed the Dandy was in need of a pick but it was too much to do on my own, I am going to put an event on for early September, so if anyone wants to join us that would be great (just watch for events on our site)
