This Sunday, the UK Government will be carrying out a nationwide test of the Emergency Alerts system.
At 3 pm, most 4G and 5G mobile phones and tablets will:
🔊 Emit a loud siren-like sound
📳 Vibrate for around 10 seconds
📱 Display a message confirming it’s only a test
💡 Why is this happening?
The system is designed to warn people quickly in life-threatening situations like severe weather or other emergencies. Testing helps make sure it works properly when needed.
📌 Who will get the alert?
✅ Most 4G/5G phones connected to a network
❌ Older devices, phones on 2G/3G only, Wi-Fi only devices, or phones that are switched off will not receive it
🚗 Drivers: Do not touch your phone when the alert sounds—it’s illegal. Wait until it’s safe to check.
⚠️ Vulnerable users: If you keep a hidden phone for safety reasons, remember the alert will make it sound and vibrate. Consider turning it off or putting it on airplane mode before 3 pm.
👉 No action is required when the alert arrives—it’s simply a test. Think of it like testing a smoke alarm: brief, but important for our safety.
Will you be ready when the alert sounds this Sunday?
