Big Retail Change Coming to Uddingston!

Scottish convenience retailer Scotmid has announced a major shake-up of its Old Edinburgh Road store. From early 2026, Scotmid will lease its current premises at 317–319 Old Edinburgh Road to Aldi, while opening a brand-new Scotmid food store right next door in the adjacent retail units.

The move means the retail complex will continue to serve the Uddingston community with more choice than ever before.

The new Scotmid store will be a smaller, modern format designed around today’s shopper. It will feature an upgraded Kitchen food-to-go counter and a carefully selected range of everyday essentials, tailored for convenience.

Importantly, Scotmid has reassured customers that there will be no job losses. Most staff will stay on site in the new shop, while others will transfer to one of three nearby Scotmid branches.

Scotmid, which has been part of the Uddingston community for over 100 years, says this move builds on its strong local presence.

Brian Boyle, Chief Operating Officer for Retail, said:
“We are proud of our long history here and delighted to introduce our new store format, offering greater convenience with the same trusted quality. Aldi’s arrival adds even more local choice, and protecting jobs remains a top priority.”

Customers will also be able to order from Scotmid online through Uber Direct once the new store opens.
