“Covenant, The Blantyre Boys” by Stuart O Neil

Blantyre resident Stuart O Neil has written his first book.

“Covenant, The Blantyre Boys” is set in and around the Bothwell and Blantyre areas.

The Killing Times were a brutal chapter in our history. The Covenanters—ordinary folk who swore Christ, not the king, was head of the Church—were hunted across the moors, imprisoned, tortured, and put to death. Their defiance shaped generations, yet the details have faded from common memory.
One of the defining moments of that struggle was The Battle of Bothwell Bridge in June 1679. A Covenanter army—brave but divided—met the disciplined Royalist forces led by James Scott, Duke of Monmouth, King Charles II illegitimate son. Riding with him was John Graham of Claverhouse, later known in legend as Bonnie Dundee—admired by some, feared by the Covenanters who called him Bluidy Clavers.
