Exciting news! Looks like the Christmas Switch on Events and Galas could once again be back ON for Blantyre! A new group is starting up, intending on continuing the successes of the former Blantyre Community Committee. Organiser, Laura McQuiggan told us, “We’re excited to invite the community along to the launch meeting for Blantyre Lights Up 2026.”
If you’d like to help bring festive cheer to our town this Christmas and help organise a brilliant lights switch-on, or simply share ideas for making Blantyre sparkle, we’d love to see you there.

Time: 18:30 – 19:30
Location: The Gallery, David Livingstone Birthplace
This is an informal meeting to chat about plans, share ideas and see who might like to get involved. Whether you can volunteer a little time, help organise events, or just want to support the community, everyone is welcome.
Let’s work together to make Blantyre Lights Up 2026 something really special for the whole community.
Laura continued, “Given the timescales, we aim to focus on the Christmas lights event for this year, but have some big ideas for a summer 2027 event.”
