Aldi…..still on the agenda

A list of 40 Scottish locations for Aldi to open a new store, has been narrowed down to just 12 priority locations….one of which is still Blantyre!

Aldi executives have once again put out a request for landowners to approach them with a view of selling land to build a new store.

Aldi are looking for a site that is at least two acres, able to accommodate an 18,000 to 20,000 sq ft store with around 100 parking spaces, and near a main road with good visibility and access.

Aldi has 112 stores in Scotland and employs more than 3,600 people.

Sandy Mitchell, regional managing director of Aldi Scotland, said: “We already have an incredible network of stores across Scotland but we have a vision to make high-quality, locally sourced and affordable food and drink accessible to as many communities as possible.”

“Our sustained growth over the last few years means we are continually expanding our real estate portfolio and have been able to invest in expanding our store footprint in Scotland and beyond.”

The expansion is part of £43m further investment into Scotland. Have your say. Do YOU think there are suitable sites in or around Blantyre?
