It was the building with the largest footprint in Blantyre, but it’s now all but gone! Demolished!
Not lasting 3 decades, the massive former ‘First Direct’ building , which some may remember also as the HSBC Call centre, has now been pulled to the ground with clearance underway.
These photos by resident Iain Douglas show the extend of the demolition in High Blantyre and of course the potential for development within the building area and adjacent carpark.
The former first direct / HSBC call-centre building was demolished primarily because it became surplus after the bank relocated staff elsewhere, and the site is now being repositioned for future redevelopment rather than reuse as offices.
The site (around 140,000 sq ft) was marketed as a development opportunity site after HSBC relocated operations to Maxim Park
