Things are hotting up! No, we don’t mean the fitba. Blantyre and much of Lanarkshire are set to enjoy some of the warmest weather of the year, with temperatures forecast to reach around 28°C tomorrow and potentially even higher. Forecasts suggest parts of Central Scotland could see temperatures approaching 30°C as the current heatwave continues, which would make it the hottest day of the year.
As Europe bakes in temperatures above 40 degrees, 30 might seem far from that, but here in Scotland, while many of us will be making the most of the sunshine in our gardens, parks and local beauty spots, it’s important to stay safe in the heat.
💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
☀️ Avoid prolonged periods in direct sunlight during the hottest hours.
🧴 Wear sunscreen and a hat when outdoors.
🐶 Remember pets can struggle in high temperatures too – ensure they have shade and fresh water.
👵 Check in on elderly relatives, neighbours and vulnerable friends.
The sunshine is certainly welcome after a long Scottish winter, but a little caution can go a long way. Enjoy the beautiful weather, stay cool where possible, and make the most of what could be a glorious few days ahead!
