A huge congratulations today to Nicola Egan, a carer with South Lanarkshire Council, whose remarkable bravery has been recognised with a special award.
A few months ago, Nicola found herself facing an incredibly dangerous situation when a fire broke out at the home of one of her service users. Despite the severe conditions, Nicola managed to rescue the lady and get both of them safely out of the property.
Such were the conditions inside the fire that firefighters afterwards reportedly expressed amazement at how Nicola had managed to get both herself and the lady to safety. Her courage and dedication to caring have already been recognised with an award for bravery, but another very special honour followed.
Nicola received a letter from Bute House and First Minister John Swinney, inviting her to attend the Braveheart Awards today — where she received an award recognising her bravery in saving the lady’s life. 🏆❤️
Those who know Nicola speaking to Blantyre Telegraph today, described her as incredibly humble, and she herself perhaps hasn’t fully realised just how extraordinary her actions were that day. Running towards danger to protect somebody in your care takes tremendous courage. Nicola’s actions went far beyond the everyday responsibilities of her job and undoubtedly made a life-changing difference when it mattered most.
Congratulations Nicola — a thoroughly deserved recognition for an exceptional act of bravery. 👏👏
Please join us in congratulating Nicola on her award and thanking her for her courage and dedication to caring for others. ❤️
