A huge congratulations to Blantyre’s Jimmy Downie, aged 94, who has celebrated an incredible 50 years of faithful membership with the Catholic men’s organisation, the Knights of Saint Columba.
Jimmy joined the Knights in October 1976 and has spent half a century supporting its charitable work and community activities.
A proud member of Blantyre’s Council 490, which now also covers Hamilton, East Kilbride and Cambuslang, Jimmy was delighted to receive a special recognition of his remarkable service.
This week, Jimmy and his wife Kathleen, who have themselves been married for an amazing 70 years, welcomed well-known Blantyre man Frank Kelly, Grand Knight of Council 490, into their home.
Frank had the pleasure of presenting Jimmy with his Golden Jubilee Certificate and Medal, along with warm wishes from the UK Supreme Knight, Brother Michael Akinrele, and all the brothers of the Order.
👏 What a wonderful achievement and a lifetime of commitment to helping others!
From everyone at Blantyre Telegraph, congratulations Jimmy on your Golden Jubilee, and best wishes to you and Kathleen! Please join us in congratulating Jimmy on this fantastic milestone! ❤️
