In 2026, Glasgow’s subway will introduce driverless trains, enhancing its operations. With around 13 million annual users, the modernization includes new trains and renovated stations. The East Kilbride to Glasgow Central railway line will reopen on 18 May 2025 after a 16-week closure for electrification and upgrades. A new Hairmyres Station, opening on 19 May 2025, will include modern facilities, accessible features, and transport options. Trains will still stop at Hairmyres on 18 May.
