East Kilbride to Glasgow Central Railway Reopening: What to Know

The East Kilbride to Glasgow Central railway line is scheduled to reopen this Sunday, 18 May 2025, following a 16-week closure for electrification and infrastructure upgrades as part of the £140 million East Kilbride Enhancement Project.

The new Hairmyres Station, located approximately 500 metres west of the original site, is set to open on Monday 19th May 2025. This modern facility will feature two platforms, an accessible footbridge with lifts, and a new transport interchange offering park-and-ride options, bus connections, and active travel links.

Trains will still call at Hairmyres on the 18th but the new station doesn’t officially open until the 19th when a plaque will be unveiled.
