Livingstone Centre receives renovation boost

centreDavid Livingstone centre, Blantyre has received a grant of £334,000, from lottery funding. The grant will allow the trust, which runs the Centre to take forward their bid for £3.5m from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The museum at Shuttle Row is the birthplace of David Livingstone and is run by the National Trust for Scotland and South Lanarkshire Council on behalf of the David Livingstone Trust. The trust hopes a further major redevelopment will boost visitor numbers and interest in Livingstone.

Speaking recently to Blantyre Telegraph, Alison, the centre manager told us “The trust hopes to completely refurbish the museum and open up all the historic buildings and collections at the site and hopefully paves the way for further funding. “

The grounds of the park are also used for many local events, the next major one, being the Summer Gala Day on Saturday 27th June 2015 at 11am.
