Exclusive: Blantyre Summer Colours Parade

colours paradeA Colourful Summer Parade returns to Blantyre for the first time in decades, on Saturday 27th June. The free event, open to all adults and children leaves from Blantyre Miner’s Welfare on Calder Street at exactly 11am where everybody will walk down to the David Livingstone Centre and onwards to kick start the Gala day. Several hundred people have already expressed their interest in attending.

Open to everybody, people are asked to wear something colourful to make the parade as fancy and colourful as can be. Some people may even want to come in fancy dress. A colourful T shirt is all you need and flags, streamers and balloons will be freely handed out to children. The route goes down by Asda, across Glasgow Road at the crossing then along to the corner of Station Road, on the pavements at all times. The walk is level and suitable for most people of any age and should last about 20 minutes. Entry to the Gala Day at the David Livingstone Centre grounds is free.

Blantyre Community Committee spokesperson commented, “We hope for great attendance and good weather. If you have a group of any sort, please come along and join in the fun”
