Tributes for Marcus Whitelaw

Screen Shot 2016-05-16 at 19.45.21Following our report yesterday about the sad death of a Blantyre man hit by a passing train, we’re now able to confirm that it was local 28 year old, Marcus Whitelaw.

Please see the story below for more details, which should end speculation. There appears to be no suspicious circumstances in what was simply a tragic accident.

Marcus was an exceptionally popular man and tributes have been flowing into Blantyre Telegraph for the last 24 hours.

Blantyre Celtic FC commented on Social Media, “The tragic news of the passing of Marcus Whitelaw has left everyone at our club deeply saddened. Marcus was a regular at our games, as indeed he was at other clubs, and he was well known at all the teams he watched on a regular basis. A huge football fan who will be sadly missed. ”

Our readers were quick to show their sympathies. Lyndsey Meechan added, “Such a tragedy!! RIP Marcus ❤️ Fly high with the Angels .” Denise Fletcher added, “Rest in peace Marcus, thoughts are with all the family xx” and Pat Cunningham said, “So sad lovely young man. Rest in peace Marcus. My thoughts and prayers are with his family X”

His untimely passing serves to all as a reminder of the dangers of the railway.
