Remembrance Sunday

2016-auchentibber-memorial-wmToday is Remembrance Sunday. As Blantyre remembers the fallen war heroes this weekend, I thought we would do something different this year. Often the cenotaph at High Blantyre Cemetery is the first place for tributes to our soldiers to be left at, but this year, I thought I would place some poppies on behalf of us all, at the often forgotten about, Auchentibber War Memorial .

Erected by the people of Auchentibber, this memorial, made from marble from the former Hamilton Palace, remembers 14 local men who died in the First World War.

Whilst there, ahead of Sunday, I took the opportunity to trim and tidy the bushes around the monument, clearing the clippings to the tip. (The bushes weren’t bad but as you can see, they do look better now)

These actions were done on behalf of us all. Lest we Forget.
