Today, Saturday 19th November 2016 saw the Festive Lights at High Blantyre Main Street, switched on by the council, as part of their switch on throughout Lanarkshire.
Main Street is tonight lit up and we have to say the tree at Kirkton Cross does look wonderful! It’s a slightly larger tree than previous years and has been lit with additional lights this year.
Of course the main event still has to take place, with Blantyre’s Festive Event scheduled for Sunday 27th November 2016. On that day, local girls Lauren and Rachel McCool will take to the stage to press the button at Stonefield Public Park. The girls will light up Glasgow Road and the main Christmas tree next to the Sports Centre.
The tree has already been put up in readiness and has been upgraded this year to a massive 30 foot tree, paid for by local businesses and Blantyre Community Committee after last years let down. (Last years tree was 16 foot!). Checking it out today, we have to admit this years is indeed a WHOPPER at almost double the height! We’ve also learned that additional lights paid for by Blantyre Community Committee have been found this year and will feature at the Low Blantyre tree, making it hopefully very impressive.
Blantyre Festive Event is Sunday 27th November from midday with FREE entry and thousands of people expected to turn out.
