In the last couple of weeks many of us have seen this beautiful face in local newspapers and on social media. The tragic story about Leanne Hawkins (21), the brave Blantyre girl who suddenly discovered she had incurable cancer has touched many thousands of people, not just in Lanarkshire, but all over the world.
So, it is with a heavy heart and much sorrow tonight that we heard of her passing this weekend, a bright and beautiful light now gone out.
Leanne was certainly a popular, fun loving and bright girl and it’s clear just how much she’ll be missed. Throughout her short illness, the former Calderside Academy pupil remained brave and positive and was recently overwhelmed in this last fortnight by the sheer amount of support from people of all ages, even those who didn’t know her.
As sympathy messages now pour in to family and friends, we also offer our sincere, deepest sympathies and know there will be many people out there shocked by this sad news. Truly, there are no other words we can offer her friends and family at this sad time.
Blantyre will remember. Rest in Peace Leanne.
