A brand new Community Care “Hub” has been approved, which will soon transform the derelict ground into a state of the art care ‘village’. The news sees the end of rumours and speculation about supermarkets or retail parks.

Alongside the new care hub,  will be the closure of Kirkton Care House on High Blantyre Main Street, and 2 others in Hamilton and Larkhall, phased over the next 3 years, all moving to the one new location just off Glasgow Road. These older care homes were inadequate in terms of size and access.

The new, modern care hub with parking and suitable outdoor space will have 20 en suite rooms and offer further services like occupational therapy, physiotherapy and social work assessments and support of all kinds.

A planned centre of excellence will train existing staff and hire new staff, developing their skills, providing employment opportunities. The council run facility will provide care for older people who do not need to be in hospital.

More Housing

Of course the land covers a big site, so it is exciting to learn that as well as the care centre, technology enabled, modern housing is to be built offering individuals, families and carers the chance to live together with easy access to independent living.

This new community care hub FINALLY puts local elderly people at its heart.
