Success!
Amazing afternoon at the ‘Big Blantyre Clean Up’ with record breaking attendance for a local litter pick. The first time we’ve tried this tieing up with many organisations in the community and what a success it was!
Between midday and 2pm today Sunday 5th August 2018, incredibly, 52 enthusiastic people turned up, motivated and ready to clean up the Calder. In a warm, close day, everybody was supplied with litter picks, bags and gloves which resulted in DOZENS of bags of rubbish, glass, bottles and plastic were gathered for the council to collect. Individual pieces of glass and cigarette ends even tidied up!
It was wonderful so see so many children also involved too. There was a real energy for tidying and making the place look more beautiful.
Organisations represented included Blantyre Telegraph, Blantyre Project, Blantyre Community Committee, Bonnie Blantyre, TACT Healthy Park, Blantyre Clean Up Crew, Hyper Cyber Youth Project and Blantyre Community Council as well as loads of local residents who kindly also helped out. With thanks also to The Hoolet’s for providing juice and water for the kids. Thanks to Margaret Lindner for teas and coffees too.
We’ll definitely be doing this again in the near future! Well done to all involved.
