Once again, the controversial and largely unwanted proposal to build an enormous incinerator on the fringes of Blantyre raises its ugly head.
Despite losing their application to build an incinerator that would be seen from all parts of Blantyre and Burnbank, Clean Power have decided to appeal against the decision, keeping the subject open for the time being.
South Lanarkshire Council have now received notification to the Scottish Ministers in respect of proposing that the incinerator should go ahead. Clean Power are appealing asking for the build to proceed, intent that the plant should be built at Whistleberry. They wish to process waste by pyrolysis on the site of the former Auchinraith House, just off Whistleberry Road, much to the disgust of local communities.
Many thousands of signatures were collected objecting to the proposals, which were thankfully upheld. The appeal is likely a formality, Clean Power going “through the motions”, for one thing is certain, if another campaign is needed to permanently close the matter for good, Blantyre AND Hamilton is well up for task. We hope Clean Power do the right thing, save their money and consider alternative sites in unpopulated areas.
Have your say. Were you involved in the original protests? How do you feel about such an incinerator being built on the edge of Blantyre? Will YOU be taking part in any campaign to permanently get the appeal removed once and for all?
