A brand new Community Orchard will be planted in High Blantyre!
Local environmental group, ‘Friends of the Calder’ in partnership with South Lanarkshire Council have teamed up with Engineering business ‘Babcock International Ltd’ for the endeavour to the benefit of all our community.
Working also with Babcock’s supply chain companies Story, Speedy and Jewsons, a site has been carefully chosen at the top of the Calder, just off Hunthill Road, (through the white gates), at the far end of the long field, directly across from High Blantyre Primary School.
Works commence tomorrow, Wednesday 20 March 2019 and comprise of planting a small fruit tree orchard, forming new paths and sensory planters with herbs and berries.
It’s hoped that the new orchard can be use for educational purposes, not just for children of all ages, but also for the enjoyment of adults too.
