Douglas Street Roadworks

After just over 2 months of daytime roadworks in High Blantyre, roadworks at Douglas Street are finally nearing completion.

Since early April, Contractors have been adding a new turning lane to improve road safety. Work has also meant included electrical works to illuminated bollards and lighting.

Pavements have been reconstructed, including the addition of tactile crossing points on the slipway. Traffic islands are added near the foot of Sydes Brae. Cabling work connecting the roundabout has also been undertaken as well as amendments to existing road drainage. The eastern side of Douglas Street has now been closed off with a new kerb-line, preventing u turns. Finally, the construction of a new retaining wall on the northwest embankment of the A725.

Traffic lights have cause some delays, especially at peak times.

With final road planing and surfacing due to take place this week, works are expected to end shortly. This work should see a marked improvement in the safety of this junction.
