Blantyre Telegraph has this week, learned of proposals to build a new Football Stadium at McAnulty (Stonefield) Public Park, Low Blantyre.
The plans follow ongoing proposals that would see the existing grass football pitches in the park, being asset transferred over from South Lanarkshire Council to Blantyre Victoria Community Club.
Vics would then propose to build a new stadium complete with 3G Astro turf and grass pitch on the site (where the annual gala is held).
No planning application has been submitted, but Blantyre Victoria Community Club have already engaged with the public in a consultation exercise, sending letters to nearby residents, particularly in nearby John Street. The letters and proposals have come somewhat as a surprise to residents, for many the first time they’ve heard about it.
A public Consultation event has been organised at the Blantyre Vics Social Club on Thursday 8th August 2019, starting at 6.30pm.
Representatives will be on hand to talk through the proposal and to answer questions the public may have. It is considered this is an early consultation exercise only with plans far from being finalised or approved.
