Interesting plans have been submitted to convert the existing Londis store into a brand new cafe on Glasgow Road, Blantyre.
With exception of ASDA cafe, there’s not many places to walk in and sit down to eat along Glasgow Road and local residents and businesses we’ve spoken to have welcomed the idea.
The Agnew family intend to create a new hot food indoor kiosk, along with also converting the premises at 233 Glasgow Road, via extension and renovation to accommodate a brand new 20 seat cafe. It will include associated food prep and toilet areas. The convenience store and post office will be maintained in the same building.
One resident told us, “There’s nothing like this in this area, so having somewhere to go and sit for lunch is going to be good.”
Another lady who lives in the tenements nearby added, “I can’t wait for this. There are a couple of nice wee sandwich shops nearby, but this part of Blantyre needs a cafe we can walk to. I’m sure it will be popular with school children too.”
