Schools will remain shut in Scotland until at least 1 February 2021, it has been announced today.
A whole raft of tougher new restrictions have been announced. Nicola Sturgeon says the decision about schools was the “most difficult” one of all
Most school pupils were due to go back on 18th but this has been changed to Monday, 1st February 2021. This includes nurseries as well as primary and secondary schools. The change will apply to all pupils – except vulnerable children, and children of key workers.
Online learning for pupils will therefore be a focus during January. Further information is expected from local authorities about this and information for key workers. The Government and local authorities will work to improve home learning capabilities and issue equipment where needed.
It remains a priority for government to reopen schools as quickly as possible. Schools and nurseries will be the first to reopen when it is safe to do so.
These decisions about schools will be reviewed on 18th January.
