The Hamilton Area Committee has approved grants totalling £725 at its most recent meeting and one of the groups is in Blantyre.
The local groups who were awarded were:
- £250 – Bothwell Fundraising Group – start-up costs (administration and publicity)
- £250 – Logan Street Tenants and Residents Association, Blantyre – start-up costs (equipment, administration and publicity)
- £225 – Friends of Cadzow, Hamilton – materials
Of the £25,750 available to the area committee this financial year, £4802.95 has now been allocated along with £6500 allocated to the COVID-19 response. There is therefore still £13,722.05 available to support activities and projects in the Hamilton area.
Grants are awarded if they benefit the community by involving people in the community by bringing them together for educational, recreational, leisure or other community activities including improvements to the local environment.
The council’s four Area Committees meet regularly throughout the year to hear community grant applications.
Community grant information and how to apply
At the area committee meeting on Wednesday 24 March (via Microsoft Teams) it was also agreed that as this was the last meeting in the current financial year the council’s Executive Director (Finance and Corporate Resources), in consultation with the Chair of the committee, should be authorised to approve any further community grant applications meeting the relevant criteria in the period to 31 March 2021. Information on any grants awarded will be reported to a future meeting.
