Residents are urged to take care this morning after a huge sinkhole opened up in Stonefield Public Park, Low Blantyre!
The shocking discovery was made in the early evening last night as a local resident walked his dog. The hole measures over 20 foot in diameter and appears quite deep. Police officers have since arrived on the scene this morning, cordoning off the area with tape. It’s understood geotechnical specialists have also been called. With Blantyre’s mining heritage in mind, we have to wonder if this is connected in some way to underground workings.
Local resident George Looflirpa, told us, “There doesn’t seem to be any real danger to the public or surrounding properties but the area in the middle (of the park) should probably be avoided for now. “
We’ll being you more on this story later today.
