A team of Blantyre people are raising funds for Glasgow children’s hospital charity by doing the ‘lap the map’ fundraiser. The charitable effort comes after Derek Hepburn’s little girl was admitted to Wishaw with feeding and breathing problems.
The aim of the fundraiser is firstly to beat Edinburgh hospital charity lol(bit of fun) by lapping the coastline of Europe or 78000km first. Mainly though to raise money for the charity to provide support to children, parents and families while their child is in hospital.
An example of the support they provide is the vcreate service in which the staff send pictures and videos of the kids while they are in the neo natal unit and picu, areas where parents can’t be there 24/7.
Derek told us, “Our little girl, Maisie was transferred to Glasgow children’s hospital where her breathing got worse and the had to intubate her and put her on a ventilator, she got a MRI which they discovered a cyst in her throat closing off her airway. She was operated on and the staff in picu went above and beyond while looking after her and making sure we knew exactly what was happening. Also the vcreate service was a big help as we weren’t allowed to stay so could see her anytime or phone anytime we wanted.”
She is now back to her normal self and thriving. All this happened when she was 6 weeks old. She’s now 12 weeks old. Here is a link to the Hepburn’s Just Giving page. Can you spare something to help this worthwhile cause?
