350 Miles for Kerry

A man from Grimsby and his family and friends (including lads from Blantyre and Hamilton) are undertaking a mammoth bike ride to honour the memory of his late partner who died from Crohn’s disease.

Lee Edwards, from Grimsby, is set to cycle 350 miles, along with 11 riders, for Crohn’s & Colitis UK – a charity which helps anyone affected by the disease and to develop research into the disease. His partner, Kerry McWhirter, was only 34 years old when she lost her life to Crohn’s disease in May this year. She left behind her 15 year old daughter, partner Lee and his kids Kane and Skye.

Local man Kevin and the others are joining Lee and cycling for charity from Grimsby to Burnbank. They left yesterday morning on Monday 20th September 2021. The friends are honouring the memory of Kerry, who originally hailed from Hamilton. Her partner Lee and his son who are from Grimsby and also her brother in law and his best mate are also doing the cycle.

They’re now on the 2nd leg today, though with some way still to go on this tremendous feat!

Yesterday morning at 9:30am, Kevin, Brian, Eddie all local, Lee, Kane and 7 others from Grimsby set off up the east coast intending to arrive in Hamilton about 12 on Saturday roughly 500 or more miles. It was supposed to be 350 miles but that’s driving distance.

Sammy Healey, who lives locally told us, “I would just like to say how proud I am of Kevin and the rest of the team with what they’re doing. Kerry would have a smile from ear to ear! x”

Well done to the entire team! Good luck! You can also support the riders by donating on their Just Giving link below.
