Blantyre folk are dismayed and angry to find that Blantyre Leisure Centre Pool is to close for 2 – 3 months early next year. The pool and sauna have only just reopened, with many customers taking out new memberships.
An email from council officials confirmed, “The contractor has confirmed that the grouting will be available early in the New Year and we have scheduled the work to replace all of the grouting in the swimming pool from w/c 7 February. “
“The pool will be closed from Monday 24 January to empty the water and will remain closed for 8-10 weeks for the grouting to be carried out and the swimming pool refilled and heated, aiming to open again at the beginning of April 2022. It is unfortunate that this work was delayed but by opening in November it did allow us three months of public access and although general swimming was very quiet, we did have a good uptake on swimming lessons.
We will start to inform our customers of the closure well in advance to allow plenty of lead-in time.”
The news once again means Blantyre people will have to go to Hamilton or East Kilbride for nearby swimming.
