Free Bus Travel

From 31st January 2022, nearly a million 5 to 21 year olds living in Scotland will be eligible to benefit from free bus travel!

The scheme, run by Transport Scotland will embed sustainable travel behaviours from an early age, open up opportunities and help Scotland meet its zero emissions target by 2045.

Children and young people in this age group will need a new or replacement National Entitlement Card (NEC) or Young Scot National Entitlement Card (Young Scot NEC) to travel by free on buses.

Parents or guardians of 5 – 15 year olds will need to apply on behalf of children. Children under 5 already travel for free by bus and won’t need a card.

Full details on how to apply either for yourself, or your child, will be published later in January.
