Two years on, we’re looking back at some photos of Blantyre during May 2020.
How different is was. Most shops and businesses closed. Holidays cancelled, airports closed and even then before facemasks, the world was just a little bit frightening for most people.
There’s little reminder needed that we were then still in the first lockdown, clapping for the NHS every Thursday night and streets were still generally deserted. We took our brief daily exercise and Blantyre’s open spaces were left to grow, with grass uncut for months, pictured as the pandemic took a firm hold.
But, now in May 2022, as we enjoy our freedoms and give thanks for some Summer normality, the long grassy photos are a stark reminder of what we all went through and of the larger impact Covid19 had on many people’s lives.
