Work is progressing at a pace at the brand new Community Garden next to the Rowan Hall, just off Glasgow Road.
Officially named, “The Blantyre Telegraph Community Growing Area“, the charitable environmental project is being led by Blantyre Soccer Academy and Blantyre Community Trust.
New secure fences have already gone up during April with surfacing, paths and topsoiling now done. Some other big changes have taken place in May. The endeavour presents a remarkable opportunity for any person in Blantyre interested in volunteering including assisting planting and growing. There are growing plots of all sizes available. If you’re interested in one of these rent free allotments, please get in touch with Blantyre Soccer Academy.
The new community garden is the latest of several community gardens in Blantyre which each through volunteer involvement serve the whole of the community.
Meantime, next months subscriptions from our Supporters group will be going towards the purchase of several fruit trees for the new community space, which is already had considerable investment. This photo was last month, but the big reveal will be happening soon!
Well done to everybody who made this happen and for all their hard work so far. With kind thanks to Jimmy Whelan and BSA.
