Community Asset Transfer Request

Notice has formally been given to Blantyre Residents on 25th May 2022 that Blantyre Victoria Youth Football Club (Vics) have requested a community asset transfer of part of Stonefield Public Park, Blantyre.

The request which asks for the proposed lease of the pitch and pavilion at John Street on a year to year basis was requested as a community football training facility at McAnulty Park (also known as Stonefield Public Park)

Letter notices have appeared on lamposts within the park with some nearby residents contacted. South Lanarkshire Council currently provides the pitch maintenance, grass cutting and lining of the pitch along with all maintenance costs associated with the pavilion changing rooms. Blantyre Victoria Community Club proposes to take over the maintenance completely which in turn will save the council these costs year on year. 

There is currently a lack of facilities in Blantyre of that there is no doubt. Blantyre Victoria believes that there is a demand for a new and improved community football and training facilities to enhance the development of football in the community. On the flip side, some complications with the asset transfer may include the site being used currently by Summer and Winter Galas and events, the future of the existing Blantyre Sports Centre (rebuild?) and ongoing discussions to develop and create Blantyre Town Centre. Of course Blantyre residents have their say for all support or objection.

Anyone may make representations about this request to South Lanarkshire Council.  Representations must be in writing and include the name and address of the person making it. A copy of the representation will be given to the organisation making the request and placed on the Council’s website.
