There’s something remarkable happening at Asda stores throughout the UK, as it attempts to beat the cost of living crisis. Their remarkable initiative to feed kids and OAPS for next to nothing has meant that over a million meals have now been served. It may surprise you to know, Blantyre is leading the way!
Since the supermarket’s Kids Eat for £1 deal was launched in June, more than 835,000 meals have been served since launch, with Asda’s Blantyre store alone serving an incredible 13,500 meals in that time!
Through November and December, Asda is also offering people aged 60 and over the chance to have a soup, a roll and unlimited tea and coffee for £1 in any of its 205 cafés – averaging around 32,500 meals a week.
Asda also revealed 73% of the sales of the meals came from customers who were new visitors to the Asda Café, including a third who were completely new to Asda.
It claimed the deal was providing a lifeline for many families, including 41% of baskets containing more than two meals, meaning multiple children are being fed per visit.
According to the BRC, more than three million youngsters have taken advantage of different retailers’ cafés and their bargain deals since May, after special campaigns were launched over the summer holidays and half term.
“We have launched these initiatives to support our customers and communities this winter as we know it’s going to be incredibly hard for many people due to rising living costs,” said Asda co-owner Mohsin Issa.
“We have already served more than a million meals through our Kids Eat for £1 and Winter Warmers deals, and we hope that many more families and over-60s will visit in December to take advantage of these offers.
“On top of this, we’ve invested £2.4m through Asda and the cost of living grant programme led by Asda’s charity, The Asda Foundation, who are support grassroots organisations providing a lifeline in their communities during these tough times.”
