Miss Lattimer added: “David Livingstone Memorial Primary takes pride in being a Reading school. We have an amazing library in our school and visit our local library regularly. This year we have really tried to promote reading for enjoyment and taking part in the Children 1st bookmark competition helped to highlight this.’’In partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Children 1st deliver a free book to children in Scotland who might otherwise go without, every month from birth to their fifth birthday. Alongside the books, Children 1st also offer practical and emotional support to help families keep their children safe and support their wellbeing and development. The charities are encouraging members of the public to support their partnership by donating to their give a love of reading campaign. People can give a one off donation or regular gift at www.children1st.org.uk/imaginationlibrary. Euan Miller, Children 1st Interim Director of Fundraising, said:“William’s design is excellent, and we are so excited to share it. Everybody who donates to the give the love of reading campaign, will receive one of William’s bookmarks to treasure.“We were thrilled with the quality of entries we received to Children 1st’s design a bookmark competition and I would like to congratulate William, Isla, Ayva and Dorota for their fantastic work. Kirsty Hill, Regional Director at The Dollywood Foundation UK. said: “Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library gifts books to over 9,000 children under five across Scotland every single month and we couldn’t do it without the hard work of our partners, like Children 1st. We always hear how the Imagination Library creates many moments of fun and joy in communities, and the charity’s bookmark competition is a wonderful example of how books and reading can spark a child’s imagination.”By donating today at www.children1st.org.uk/imaginationlibrary you can help more children who don’t have access to books at home develop a love of reading. Stories are an important part of childhood and Children 1st wants to ensure that all children get to experience the joy of books and reading with their family. Spending precious time reading together develops a child’s communication and language skills as well as helping them build strong relationships and feel safe.” A parent, whose young child is already receiving books thanks to the campaign, said:“I think all children should get to have a story at bedtime. Getting books in the post addressed to my son is exciting for him. Having a new book keeps it fresh and stops him getting bored listening to the same story all the time. It’s been great for my son and even for his older siblings too, as they’re enjoying reading the new stories to their little brother.” |
