The popular Hillhouse Summer Festival isn’t going ahead this year, after a deliberate fire at their storage container destroyed all their equipment and stock.
The popular event in Hamilton, which also attracts people from Blantyre had to be cancelled after the volunteers loss. Volunteers from the group made the tough decision saying they had “no options left to us” in time to stage the event – but are now planning to join forces with two more organisations for a “much bigger and better” week-long festival in 2024.
Mindless idiots (well, let’s face it, thats what they are), deliberately caused this fire according to authorities, denying themselves and their own families and friends a great day out. Sadly, the fire didn’t just destroy event contents including gazebos but also foodbank donations intended for colleagues from the local tenants’ and residents’ association.
Organisers were keen to ensure the event was free and not to charge people to get in.
A separate fun day is taking place in Hillhouse residents on Saturday, August 12, organised by the tenants’ and residents’ association.
