A very special shoutout this weekend to well known local Travel firm, Glen Travel, who are celebrating their half Century in business!
Glen Travel has been a well known name for 50 years from their humble beginnings in Bellshill and Glasgow Road, through their move to Clydeview Shopping Centre and right up to their November 2017 move to a prime current location at the junction of Station Road, Blantyre.
The company was set up by David Glen and his business partner Margaret Donnelly in 1973 and has employed many local people through the years. Now run by David’s sons, David, Alan and Douglas, the company clocks up half a century of trading this weekend, on 10th September 2023.
Alan Glen said: “It’s something to be proud of, having a family business that’s lasted the test of time. There are not a lot of independents left and you’ve really got to know your stuff to be here now.”
Director David Glen, once told us “We may grow a lot in future, but we will never lose the personal touch.”
Glen Travel enjoys a strong customer base from Blantyre and far beyond. The business which functions both as travel agency and tour operator employs 19 staff and is well known for its first class, excellent customer service.
“You have to pay attention to the customers and make sure they’re looked after,” added Alan.
The industry as a whole was hit pretty hard during the covid pandemic when travelling for most people wasn’t an option. Navigating their way successfully through that was a difficult time, and the business has thankfully emerged stronger than ever.
