Popular Italian restaurant Da Luciano in Bothwell, has now been completely demolished.
Having been the latest restaurant in the normally quiet town of Bothwell to be subjected to arson attacks, Da Luciano was forced to permanently close in August following a second targeted fire. Police still treating the attacks as deliberate.
This wasn’t the first business to be targeted in the town, and unfortunately the last few years have seen notable spikes in criminal activity, apparently fuelled by serious, dangerous and deliberate attempts to ruin local, hard working businesses.
The damaged building had become a bit of an eyesore over the last few months with some locals glad that its now been removed, though saddened by how that came about.
One resident messaged us, “We loved eating out at that restaurant. The food was great and it was a lovely place to meet up with friends. Sad to see it go.”
Police Scotland confirmed investigations into the fires were ‘ongoing’. South Lanarkshire Council said permission was not required to demolish the building due to its condition.
