Calderside Academy Teamwork

A team of girls from Calderside Academy have been successful in reaching the finals of the very prestigious Growing Future Asset Investment competition!

The ‘Future Asset’ annual competition enables girls in Scottish schools to experience the role of an Investment Manager. The competition challenges teams to research and pitch a company they believe has great investment potential. Teams learn about the world of investing whilst competing in a nationwide competition for a chance to win up to £1000 for their school and up to £200 in vouchers per student.

The team from Calderside, named ‘The Money Makers’, were entered into the Junior competition and made it to the Top 4 Final having competed against 110 other schools in Scotland. The girls had to produce a three minute elevator pitch and write a research report.

Their teacher, Miss Burns said, “I was very impressed with the commitment of the girls in tackling this competition. They worked so well together as a team and produced an excellent video and report. I was delighted to have been able to guide them through this process. My thanks also go to their competition coach Claire Jervis who is a financial associate fund manager at Wheb and she provided invaluable help to the girls.”

Head of S3 Mrs McCaig said “Amazing that the girls have achieved a top 4 ranking, so proud.”

The final of the competition will take place on Friday 1st March at the Edinburgh office of Investec Wealth & Investment. The names of the girls are – Chloe Craigan, Mollie Longbottom, Millie Clarkson, Anna Miller-McMillan, Emma McLean and Sophie Roberts.
