An investigation is underway to trace the mindless idiots responsible for setting fire to playground equipment in the grounds of Calderside Academy and Nursery, Blantyre.
Sadly, and seriously, 3 significant fires have deliberately been started by youths hanging around this area during the last 3 weeks. Residents have had enough with the fire brigade having once again to respond. Police are now also involved given the seriousness of such deliberate arson to property and danger to nearby residents.
This was the scene as yet another fire burned in the playground, causing authorities to once again be called to put the blaze out. CCTV of the youths responsible has been obtained, clearly showing a group of 5 youths in the garden with another very large group joining them.
There was two fires in separate areas of the garden with damage estimated at costing many hundreds of pounds. Sadly, it means now the nice weather is coming, the outdoor area is unusable for the young children.
A spokesperson for Calderside Nursery told Blantyre Telegraph, “We have came into the nursery this morning and the garden is a mess, once again children’s resources burnt to the ground and the garden is unusable at the moment”
“Our young pupils are being affected by this and obviously someone’s kids have came home stinking of smoke this weekend”
How absolutely disgusted we are with this and would like to think that nobody from Blantyre could ever do this to their home town.
The Nursery staff are looking for anybody who could help them clean up and repair and make the area good again for their youngsters to play outdoors again.
