Strong Solar Activity

One of the best opportunities to see the Northern Lights in the UK should be available tonight. Atmospheric conditions are just right for what is believed to be the strongest solar activity in 20 years.

It’s been described as a ‘severe solar storm’ by the US agency National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), while here in the UK the Met Office has warned that we’ll be experiencing high solar activity.

For us here in Scotland, you should be able to see the Northern Lights in some fashion by gazing into the northern night sky tonight, Friday 10th May. For most of us here in Blantyre this means looking over to the night sky generally in the direction above Priory Bridge.

Cloudless skies are expected tonight, with a beautiful sunset expected, so conditions should be just right!
