Blantyre Telegraph reader, Dean Reynolds has an interesting hobby. He has been documenting the music of Lanarkshire based singer John Docherty, more affectionately known as the Doc.
Doc was a well known performer around Scotland back in the day, particularly in and around the central belt and was a mainstay at Blantyre’s Hasties’ Farm for a number of years when the venue was at it’s thriving best. During this time, the owners at the time, Sam Plotnikoff and Graham Gordon, ventured into the music business by creating a label in the Farm’s name and released the E.P. John Doc At Hasties Farm.
Since Doc has passed, Dean has been attempting to track down the master tapes of his officially released records to digitize so that is music is freely available from the definitive source. He’s had a bit of success in this endeavour, however hit a brick wall as far as the Hasties master is concerned and was hoping that our readers may be able to help reach more ears that could possibly help?
Does anybody know more about John Docherty or what happened to the official releases of his music, particularly the master tapes? A reminder, Dean is strictly non profit. The goal here is to preserve the work that positively impacted many lives and was a staple in many households, as tape deteriorates over time, especially if not cared for.
