Two companies have been fined more than £350,000 after a lorry driver was crushed to death in Blantyre under concrete blocks.
Conor Morgan, 45, had been delivering the material to a building site when the Avant Homes, Greenhall Village was being built when he tragically lost his life in an accident in April 2017.
His family were naturally devastated and his death shocked colleagues and touched the lives of many people in this community.
Morgan’s Newry-based employer Re-Gen Waste and Edinburgh-based Avant Homes Ltd, admitted breaching health and safety laws at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
Peter Gray KC, defending Avant, said: “It is a matter of great concern and regret that Mr Morgan lost his life as a result of failings which the accused organisation is in part responsible for and I’m instructed on their behalf to offer their deepest sympathies to his family for the tragic loss they have suffered.”
Barry Smith KC, defending Re-Gen, said: “I’m asked formally to tender the sincerest condolences of all those involved in Re-Gen to Mrs Morgan and the family of Connor Morgan.
Following the accident, Blantyre Telegraph raised £709 for a charity of his family’s choosing, which went to Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.
