Girls Charged after sickening attack

You may remember last month the reports of a disgusting, sickening and brutal attack on an innocent woman who was sunbathing at the Calder?

Melanie Cuthbertson (52) had fallen asleep on 24th June following a day out at the Milheugh Waterfall at the Calder in Blantyre when she was left black and blue following a ‘terrifying attack’ by a group of youths, primarily girls.

Following initial investigations, Police Scotland have now confirmed that two girls, aged 16 and 17, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Two teenage girls aged 16 and 17 years have been arrested and charged in connection. They were released on an undertaking to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court at a later date. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

It is difficult to imagine that anybody would do this to an innocent person, so we hope the arrests, charges and imminent sentencing go some way towards everybody understanding that crimes like this will never go unpunished and kept on lifelong police records.

Drawing a line under this story and intending on restoring some faith in humanity, we recently reached out on behalf of our Supporters Group and gave Melanie £75 to buy a nice meal and drinks for her and a friend at Carrigans, Blantyre. Speaking to Melanie in a follow up, she was most grateful to Blantyre Telegraph readers, and is recovering. She passes on her thanks for the kindness shown by everybody here on this page.
